Mardi Gras Poster

Starting off the year with some fresh new concepts for upcoming local events in Texas. Thanks to the hard working staff over at @mardigrasgalveston and YAGAS for pushing @ivancam and myself to design and paint some poster concepts for one of this year’s upcoming festivities. It was a real joy to splash some paint around and create some new collaborative work.

Beadie Beadie Bombshell

We will be offering limited edition giclees of "Beadie Beadie Bombshell" a hand painted (acrylic on paper) collaborative. Thematically, this painting is meant to bring out qualities that come from fully experiencing Galveston Island. The poster is a romanticized view of island lifestyles reminiscent of artist Paul Gauguin and his work on the island of Tahiti. The well-known Mardi Gras colors of Gold, Green and Violet are used within the painting to accent the celebration. Furthermore, local residents and traveling beach goers of Galveston will find a familiarity with the poster girl as it complements the island spirit as well as the annual bathing beauty event that happens on the beaches of Galveston. Giclees of this painting will be available soon in each of our online stores and at local art markets here in Houston and Galveston TX.  Also, look out for universal postcards of this painting coming soon!

Ballroom in the Sky

We will be offering limited edition giclees of "Ballroom in the Sky" a hand painted (acrylic on paper) collaborative. This painting evokes the more celebratory aspect of Mardi Gras and the overall feeling of unity among peers. The juxtaposition and variety in the characters depicted not only exemplifies a celebration of Mardi Gras, but also a celebration of diversity and life itself. Aesthetically, research for this was done by observing paintings and murals from different eras and styles dating as far back as the iconic work of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec. Opting for a more distinguished look and feel, details of 40s - 50s era life styles were implemented. This painting also adopts a loose painterly style to complement the frivolity of the subjects and is freed up in its use of color. Giclees of this painting will be available soon in each of our online stores and at local art markets here in Houston and Galveston TX.  Also, look out for universal postcards of this painting coming soon!
